Government-Funded Childcare Options
In England, the government offers several funding schemes to support families with young children. These include:
- 15 Hours Free Childcare for 2-Year-Olds: Eligible families can access 15 hours of free childcare per week for 38 weeks, totaling 570 hours per year. Eligibility is based on specific criteria, such as income and benefits received.
- 15 Hours Free Childcare for All 3 and 4-Year-Olds: All families are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week for 38 weeks, regardless of income or employment status. This also totals 570 hours per year.
- 30 Hours Free Childcare for Working Parents: Working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds may be eligible for an additional 15 hours, bringing the total to 30 hours per week for 38 weeks (1,140 hours per year). Eligibility depends on employment status and income thresholds.
Tax-Free Childcare
The Tax-Free Childcare scheme provides eligible families with a government top-up of £2 for every £8 deposited into a designated childcare account, up to £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for disabled children). These funds can be used to pay for approved childcare, including nursery fees.
